Last week my angel stopped by to check in on me. Well, she probably thought she was just coming through town for a short visit during her brave journey down the Natchez Trace on her way to New Orleans to visit another friend. But I’m pretty sure God sent her to inspire and refresh me so I can continue about my own personal journey and race…
There are few people who I can honestly say have completely changed or greatly affected the trajectory of my life; Abbey is certainly one of them. I’ve heard there are three kinds of friends: friends for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. I’ve had several fall into at least one of the categories, perhaps a dozen who fall into two, and less than the fingers of one hand that are truly all three and again – Abbey is one of them.
We’ve been friends since the first week – if not the first day – of college at Indiana University. She has seen the good, the bad, the ugly, the crazy, the happy, the sad… Abbey has truly seen it ALL. Nevertheless, she loves me with a supernatural love and friendship that is patient, kind, and selfless – a love that can only come from one source, Jesus Christ, and His light shines so obviously through her beautiful face.
She sees beauty in the wild violets that take up most of our yard (and are technically weeds according to Google) and genuinely delights in them. She loves the overgrown vines that have engulfed our backyard fence and thinks that they are magical. She is the kind of woman who lights up a room, sees the best in everyone she meets, and inspires courage in others to discover the person God created them to be.
This is my dear sweet friend, Abbey.
