Olivia’s Colorful Birthday

After we found out a family tragedy occurred late last week there was no second thought about dropping everything and driving up to Indiana. We scrambled to figure logistics out and as He always faithfully does, God provided everything we needed so we could make the trip.

It was a weekend full of bold emotion, kind of like Olivia’s beautiful birthday cake:

Ok truthfully emotions were not nearly as neat as this cake, but certainly just as bold!

It was interesting how things timed out – Olivia’s 10th birthday party, our wedding anniversary, and a funeral all in one weekend.

It was a heavy but happy weekend and it made me realize the value of coming together as a family and community. Being around the kids at Olivia’s party was also a great reminder to enjoy the present moment:

Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. Matthew 6:34 (MSG)

Grandpa Dix didn’t exactly play fair, but Jack still thinks he sure is a lot of fun!

Why spend money on toys when you’ve got an old tire tube lying around in the garage?

Caden (left), 12, pretty much surpassed me last year. So now he’s measuring himself up against his 12-year-old cousin, Kayleigh. Is it too late for me to drink the water they’re drinking?

Nothing beats good old fashioned fun in the sun!
